"Portrait of Maude Wilmot"
Oil on canvas, 24 inches by 22 inches, signed (lower right) T. Gegoux and dated 1911. Painted by Gegoux Photographs by private party © Copyright 2013 - All Rights Reserved |
August 28, 2013 Dear Friends, I have had hanging in my home the portrait of my grandmother, Maude Wilmot, for the last 53 years – and before that it was hanging in my parents home in Portland, Oregon. I have just now become interested in researching the artist, Theodore Gegoux, whom I find to be very interesting. The story of my grandmother’s portrait is as follows: In approximately 1910-1912 Theodore was in Portland and not doing well financially. Somehow my grandparents became acquainted with him and invited him to live for a time at their home which he did. He painted in their attic. When he did get on his feet financially, he painted the portrait of my grandmother as a thank you to them for their hospitality. I live in (the northwest) and would be very interested in having the painting evaluated (appraised) because I have no idea of its value. I am attaching photos that I have taken of the picture itself (22” x 24”) and also a close-up of the signature. Please let me know if you have an interest in this portrait as I don’t think any of my children or grandchildren are interested in having it. Thank you for any help, Anne Wilmot Henderson |
